Planting soon

Hello,

My nursery whips are around 3' now and I will be planting soon. Is it ok to strip the side shoots while they are small before or during planting to give more energy to the leader? I want my first row of branches to be around 4' from the ground.

Thanks,

That's what I did, I also want my first row of scaffold branches at about 4' of the ground. I just finished planting out about 500 trees in my orchard, what a job !

Hi Pat,

Strip away, or let the side shoots grow this year and cut them next winter too. Keep in mind that it is all about photosynthesis. No leaves means no energy being created for overall growth.

4ft off the ground is fine.

Post up a few pics

Continued success!
