Hello Claude! Sorry - just seeing your response now. Yes I'm in BC. My wood is from Pico/Summerland. How bitter are you finding Marechal and when does it crop for you? What I am finding is it doesn't have much vigour at all. It's on M9 and everything around these two trees are out pacing then in growth and general health (which I'm sad about). They are on the fence on wby gloria bell - Cider Apples
In the past I've used dormant oil (labelled as such) but haven't been able to source it. I have neem oil and love what it does in the orchard. Can I use 1% or 2% concentration as a dormant spray in Janurary/feb before bud swell? I normally shoot for three application during the dormant season, I didn't get to fall sprays as it just wouldn't stop raining... Suggestions aby gloria bell - Spray Nuance
I have Marachel but I'm also in canada. Can be quite bitter as it's a strong hard tannin. Mine should crop this year but got wood off of another cider maker.by gloria bell - Cider Apples
We use Fir. No cedar. Have a close friend who is an arbourist and I've had a couple dump truck loads of fresh chippings. That pile is hot hot hot for a while but we spread it one after about a month onto the orchard in spring to about 2' thick. The mushrooms we had this spring was amazing. I wish I had innoculated with morels!! Anyways, the pile remains are slowly getting smallerby gloria bell - Understory Management

I just started using a bennonite clay with milk protein. It seems to stick REALLY well. When it's rinsed out of the tanks in large quantities, it seems to make the ground in penetrable to water and causes constant puddles. Not sure if there is any other drawbacks but I'll report back on how long it lasts. I've also heard that you can add a little latex paint to bio dynamic paby gloria bell - Bug by Bug
Thanks for the post Michael! Do you think that it makes a difference using bennonite clay with caesin protein or just bennonite? The caesin sure makes it bind to the tree but not sure if there's any drawbacks there of using it. It was what we had on hand and although alpaca manure sounds boutique - it was also what was available (but hard to use - must grind and pound into a paste). Will do! Located Vancouver island bc Canada. Zone 8 I’ll add more to my profile. Orchard in same zone and we have heavy canker and fugal pressures. Codling moth as well.by gloria bell - Biodynamic Orcharding
I ended up using bennonite with caesin protein (it’s what we had), DE and alpaca manure. 3:2:4 ratios Nice because it wasn’t so white but more bark colorby gloria bell - Biodynamic Orcharding
Many orchards here use them. They burn the ends before the bury/pound them in.by gloria bell - Just Talk
I've taken the path of creating some new crosses (over the years) and looking for others also doing the same or even planting seedlings to grow up to fruit from OP seeds. I do have to say that this little project (which really takes a TON of time) fills me with joy. My goal is some lovely red fleshed apples and pears we can eat and ferment and share with friends. oh how I would love to kill blind weed/morning glory but I think these will be around to end of time..... Watching this thread!by gloria bell - Just Talk
This has just been released for use in canada. The orchard I'm assisting at is ordering it and I'd like to know more about it (not just what the manufacturer states). Anyone have any experience with it?by gloria bell - Just Talk
We found a solution! We changed from dr. Bronners to Seventh Generation (biodegradable). Amazing difference. Yes it's warmer out but the emulsification was so much better than cleaning was easier as was spraying. For 100L we used 1/2 cup. I tried sprays with 1/3 cup and less and it wasn't quite enough and adding more after the fact doesn't do the same as emulsifying early on.by gloria bell - Spray Nuance
This is absolutely wonderful to read. Thank you for posting!by gloria bell - Biodynamic Orcharding
I have a few questions. I'm working with a local orchard and trying to enhance tree health. They are mostly organic but feeling the pressures of disease due to time constraints and not keeping up with spraying. I I've neemed with kelp and fish yesterday. I removed some of the falling off bark around graft unions (trees 3-8 years old) that housed many many insects like wood bugs anby gloria bell - Biodynamic Orcharding

We are having issues with neem emulsifying and have followed Michaels recipe. As for soap, I seem to recall it being mentioned in a video of Michaels somewhere that stated that Dr Bronners pure Castille soap isn’t as concentrated as say Seventh Generation. Can I ask members to comment on what soap they are using? I’m having to use an aweful lot of soap. The garden neem I have recommends 1tsp neeby gloria bell - Spray Nuance
