I've killed a Dabinett with neem oil before. I usually spray at 5 or 6 pm but this particular time I sprayed in the early morning and I'm guessing a full day in the hot sun with the morning spray just roasted it.by Christian Annese - Spray Nuance
Never heard of these wasps before, I looked on line and could not find a way to order them. The beetle population in my orchard has exploded over the past few years. They usually only have a taste for my cherry trees, grapes and one variety of apple but this year they are on every apple tree. I've coated my smaller, younger trees with Surround as a deterrent and that works okay unlessby Christian Annese - Bug by Bug
I just got mine in. I'm going to trial it for a month and share the results. The reviewers on Amazon state that it catches a lot of moths.by Christian Annese - Bug by Bug
Old thread but I am interested in the application of hop resin/oils to combat Fire Blight. I have a small hop yard that yields more than I can possibly use and I'd like to start doing some trials. Anyone interested? I'll start a new thread where findings can be shared.by Christian Annese - Bacterial Opportunists
Some people over on a google group for cider have been using this trap for codling moths with success.by Christian Annese - Bug by Bug
By callous over, I am referring to the cut made above the chip bud. It is visible in my picture. All of the 1-2 year old trees I've gotten from the nursery has a stump from the rootstock exposed, this is not calloused over. This is where the dieback occurs and rots get in.by Christian Annese - Orchard Systems
I've realized that the trees that are okay on this and my g.30 stocks are bench grafts. The ones I'm having issues with seem to all be chip bud grafts. If the graft has not calloused over then it dies back in a few years.by Christian Annese - Orchard Systems
Ever since I put my first g.11 rootstock in the ground I've had issues keeping these trees alive. Something happens to the graft union of the tree and dieback from the rootstock and scion occur. Once the cambium dies back, rot sets in and thats all she wrote. My orchard is South East facing, soil drains very well. I keep things pretty clean. These trees are nursery bought. I have terrible luck with G.11 stocks. 80% of them development an issue around the graft union. The rootstock part dies around the graft. Nothing seems to stop it. I just found a few more trees with dead cambium half way around the graft site. No other trees in my orchard have these issues.by Christian Annese - Orchard Systems
I've lost 5 or 6 trees to this pest so far. Last year I started doing the neem oil trunk spray every two weeks. From April to October. That worked very well, however this season I got a late start and two trees were hit. One died and one is in recovery. I've read that you can make traps for these guys with a large water bottle and some ethanol. I have yet to try it, maybe next springby Christian Annese - Bug by Bug
Hi Pat I had the same thing happen to 5 golden russets in my orchard this past winter. Out of 50 trees this variety was the only one that had this damage. I believe the damage occurred after a big temperature drop but I can't be sure. These trees are 5 years old and only two have recovered. Interesting to note is one of them has this twisted truck thing going on. I'm not sure if this iby Christian Annese - Apples
