We're aiming for consistency in how we refer to different aspects of the forum and the overarching portal pages. Here be a rambling list to help everyone keep track:

GrowOrganicApples (GOA) being the root website for multiple orchard happenings, from research to promoting community orcharding to selling orchard-related books to a core biological curriculum.

Holistic Orchard Network (HON) being the sponsoring group behind all these efforts.

Online Community being the portal pages where growers can interact via the Forum, the Wiki, the Library, Events, and Grower Profiles.

Portal is the opening page for all Online Community features.

Forum being the "discussion list serve" for grower talk, using Phorum software.

Here's where it gets trickier . . .
forums being the categories of discussion.
subjects being the topics we discuss within forum categories.
threads being an alternative name for subjects/topics.
posts being the original message along with any and all replies.

Folder List being the first grouping of forums specific to orcharding and fruit varieties.
Forums being the second grouping of forums, now concerning the site and the network.
Don't sweat these two; it's merely organizational.
A listing of forums within either of these groupings can be referred to as its index.
The menu option to return to the forum list takes you to the category index within a folder.
The menu option to return to the message list takes you to the topic index within a forum.

Member implies having joined the network by providing cumulative financial support of $100 or more.
Participant implies having a user account in our Forum and thus having met "authentic orchardist" criteria.
A much bigger mailing list is maintained for anyone interested in receiving occasional newsletters and the like.

And finally, signing off,
The Holistic Fool
